“Three New Dog Breeds Recognized by AKC”. My first thoughts after reading this and other slightly misleading title variations on the major media news sites was “Where did these new breeds come from?”. The truth is these dogs have been around longer than the AKC. A more accurate title would have been “Three Dog Breeds Newly Recognized by AKC”, but that doesn’t hook people’s curiosity into opening the article now does it? So we’ve followed their lead and here you are. Welcome!

The AKC records and reports standards for breeds for judging purposes. Also, those standards to help as a reference when shopping for a dog to identify traits such as size, temperament, coat length, color, grooming and exercise requirements. This may be an oversimplified definition of AKC registration, but you get the idea. The benefits from AKC registration of these noble breeds should promote the popularity of these great dogs. Great move American Kennel Club!
