How to Train Small Dogs to Sit on Command

Small dog training can be a little harder on your back at first just because a smaller dog is so much closer to the ground than a bigger dog. But it shouldn’t take long to teach your small dog the basic sit command and, over the long run, most people are very happy they took the time.

First read though the handpicked small dog training articles listed below and familiarize yourself with the basic technique of teaching the sit command. Notice as you read that each article will have something slightly different to offer. When learning something new, it’s always good to “mine the gold”, as I like to call it, from several different trainers and then put it all together in your own head to come up with what will work best for you and your dog.

Next, decide what the best time of day is for you to do a little training. I’d suggest 2 or 3 times a day for 5 days and each time should take between 5-10 minutes. Preferred times might be in the morning before work, in the early evening just before dinner time and just before bedtime. By the 4th or 5th day, your dog will likely have the sit command memorized and be ready to move on to the next basic command.

Each of the following articles will provide you with some unique tips and perspective on how to easily and quickly teach your small dog to sit. A couple of them also cover additional training tips.
